“Ladybugs and Lace opened its doors in October 2007. This business actually started as a little hobby for me. I had a booth at a few different businesses in a couple of different cities and found that I really enjoyed selling items that made people happy.

When my business grew larger, and the store I was located in was closing in a few weeks, we looked for a new location. My mom, as moms will do, came to my rescue. She offered us the rental house she owned for use as our new shop. So, we used our savings, borrowed some money, and set up a new business. Did I mention that it’s the same house my husband and I lived in when we first married? It’s also the house in which we raised our two children.

My family is very much a part of my business and its success. My husband, Bill, has always encouraged me and had faith in my dream even when I didn’t. My mom, Grace, has been my chief assistant, clerk, advisor, and yes, sometimes my boss. She is my rock.

The name and logo of Ladybugs and Lace is all about family too. I came up with the Ladybugs part courtesy of our son, Billy. When he was in elementary school, he had to illustrate a little poem entitled “You Can’t Hug a Ladybug.” After that, whenever I saw a ladybug, I always thought of him.

The Lace part of our name is for our daughter, Jenny. Now, she was most definitely a tomboy growing up, but she eventually traded her bat and glove for high heels and dresses. She and her husband, Will, have blessed us with three grandchildren. They are also included in our logo.

The two identically sized ladybugs are for our twin grandsons, David and Hayes. The smaller ladybug is for their younger sister, our granddaughter, Emily.”
